Happiness

"Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself"-Ralph Waldo Emerson. I really like this quote because I think it's saying that when you try to make someone happy you become happy too. Ralph Waldo Emerson's comparison to happiness is perfume, and as most people know perfume can go everywhere if one is not careful with spraying it. Happiness can spread like perfume without you even trying. Many of Ralph Waldo's quotes are about happiness and fun things. This is one of the many reasons why I like his quotes.
Many of his comparisons are meant to brighten your day, or for you to think poistivley. Many of his quotes are meant to make us think of what we are meant to do, or things we thought we could never do but can.

  1. That is a very clever quote. I never thought of happiness that way. I like this quote too, it is different, but great!

  4. Good post, Haley. Actually, psychology has shown that to be true in many ways. For instance, in one study, researchers gave money to two groups of people and told the people in one group to keep it or spend it and the other group to give it away. The people who gave it away were happier than the folks who kept or spent it, both immediately afterward and weeks later. Of course that is not as elegant as Emerson's metaphor!
